Ah…Aubrey Beardsley, an old love of mine. It’s nice to revisit artwork that inspired me long ago. As I’ve been exploring the embroidery world and how it can be applied to illustration and design, I remembered how his work might help me figure out how to translate things into line. As you can see, the guy excelled in black and white. These are two of my favorite pieces. If you search Google images, you can see more of his work, much of which was naughty naughty. He loved to draw women farting, for example. I wonder how his work would have progressed had he lived beyond 26. I wonder if his love for grotesque and erotic imagery would have transformed into something else as he aged.
